The Kentucky Department of Education, Office of Special Education, Division of State Schools, Kentucky School for the Blind in Louisville, Kentucky (Jefferson County) has an opening for a School Psychologist. 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 

Conduct psychological assessments of visually impaired students who have been referred for special education and related services, including the administration of standardized or specifically requested assessments, behavior evaluations and completion of the written integrated report. 

Work with KSB teachers/administrators and local district special education teachers and related service providers in the completion of required three year assessments of students with identified needs for special education and related services. 

Work with KSB staff as a team member to maximize process in the evaluation routine. 

Conduct initial eligibility psychological assessments including behavioral observations.  

Interpret test results and complete a written integrated report for each student referred for special education, as well as those students requiring a three-year evaluation. 

Consult with KSB school personnel, statewide school personnel and parents concerning the special needs of students in the referral process of currently receiving special education services. 

Provide parent training as needed for students in the referral process or who are currently receiving special education services. 

Participate in Admission and Release Committee (ARC) meetings and act as backup ARC chairperson as requested. 

Evaluate the effectiveness of academic programs or behavior management procedures at the request of the ARC meeting and based upon time available. 

Work as a team member or lead with the evaluation team in the integration, scheduling, and completing of all written reports as directed by immediate supervisor. 

Provide consultation or back-up for Guidance Counselor with small group counseling sessions for students, at the request of the ARC meeting, based upon time available and the identified needs of the students. 

Assist Special Education Representatives with referrals, including the identification and recommendation of appropriate educational and behavioral strategies. 

Travel to statewide school districts or provide phone consultations with districts for assessments as needed. 

Provide professional development as requested from KSB and/or school districts, must be approved by immediate supervisor. 

Refer students and their families to appropriate community agencies for medical, vocational, or social services. 

Attend and contribute to the mental health team meetings. 

Assist KSB's Director of Special Education as needed. 

Perform other duties as needed 

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: 

Must possess a Masters Degree and valid Kentucky certification as a School Psychologist.  Applicant must be willing to learn best practices for assessing students with visual impairments. 

Applicants and employees in this classification may be required to submit to a drug screening test and background check. 

In accordance with KRS 161.220 the applicant selected for this position will become a member of the Kentucky Teachers Retirement System.

Salary: Dependent upon qualifications, training, and experience. This is a 192 day contracted position. KSB follows the JCPS 2023-24 Salary Schedule/Rank & Step
