Effective
July 1, 2015, Kentucky public school finance officers will be required to comply with
702 KAR 3:320 Finance Officer Certification Requirements, which establishes the standards for certification of school finance officers and sets the requirements for continuing education in order to maintain the certification. The Kentucky Department of Education, Division of District Support will be reviewing qualifications of school finance officers and monitoring continuing education hours.
• Finance officers employed at a Kentucky public school district on or after July 1, 2015 will be required to complete and submit the web-based Provisional Certification Application to the Division of District Support.
• Finance officers employed on
June 30, 2015 and July 1, 2015 or without a 6 months or longer employment break as a Kentucky public school finance officer are considered to have
grandfather status under
702 KAR 3:320. Finance officers classified as having grandfather status is also required to complete and submit the web-based
Provisional Certification Application to the division,
and may request to become a mentor for the finance officer intern(s) by completing the web-based
Mentor Application.
In accordance with 702 KAR 3:320 finance officers are required to complete
42 hours of continuing education every 2 years, with at least 12 hours by June 30 of each fiscal year. The division maintains the
Finance Officer Hours List document that consists of a listing of all trainings approved for finance officer hours and located at
Finance Officer Training.
