Non-Public Schools

Published: 8/11/2026 9:32 AM

The Kentucky constitution establishes the prerogatives of the parents to choose the formal education for the child. Therefore, parents may choose to have their child educated in a non-public school of their choice.

Non-Public schools must adhere to Kentucky laws regarding school attendance, minimum instructional hours, subjects taught and records kept.

In order for a non-public school to obtain a KDE issued school number the school must complete the Kentucky Board of Education (KBE) Certification process. The KBE Certified Non-Public Schools List includes all current KBE certified non-public schools along with school demographics.

Reference the Kentucky Non-Public Schools Information Packet for additional information.
