Requirements
Kentucky superintendents are required by 702 KAR 1:160 to assign someone the duties of District Health Coordinator (DHC). Information and policy is provided here that may assist DHCs as they perform their duties.
Health Services Reference Guide
The Kentucky Department of Education provides the electronic Health Services Reference Guide (HSRG) to clarify student health policy and assist schools in identifying and providing an educational environment where physical and mental barriers to learning have been reduced for all students. Information and resources included in the HSRG will be updated as federal or state policies and requirements change.
The HSRG is a reference for school districts as they development district-specific policies, procedures and forms. It is the responsibility of the local school district to keep their health services policies, procedures and forms up to date per state and federal guidelines.
This resource is available electronically from the KDE Web site. The law in KRS 156.501(1)(a)(3) requires each school district to keep a copy of the HSRG in the school library. KDE recommends that a link to this online resource be available via the computers in all school libraries to meet this requirement.

Emergency Medication Information
In accordance with Kentucky statutes, the Kentucky Department of Public Health (KDH) has developed protocols on the safe and proper administration of stock epinephrine, naloxone (Narcan), bronchodilator rescue inhalers (BRI) and undesignated glucagon in Kentucky schools. Individual districts will need to develop their own policies and/or procedures to be used in addition to these protocols. If you need assistance or guidance with the development of policies or procedures, please contact the Kentucky School Boards Association.
