Requirements

Kentucky superintendents are required by 702 K​AR 1:160 to assign someone the duties of District Health Coordinator (DHC). Information and policy is provided here that may assist DHCs as they perform their duties.​

Emergency Medication Information

In accordance with Kentucky statutes, the Kentucky Department of Public Health (KDH) has developed protocols on the safe and proper administration of stock epinephrine, naloxone (Narcan) and for bronchodilator rescue inhalers (BRI) in Kentucky schools.  Individual districts will need to develop their own policies and/or procedures to be used in addition to these protocols.  If you need assistance or guidance with the development of policies or procedures, please contact the Kentucky School Boards ​Association.

Diabetes in Kentucky Schools Training 

In accordance with KRS 158.838, Kentucky Schools, both public and private, should have a staff member present trained in the signs and symptoms of hypo and hyperglycemia, treatment of those conditions and on the administration of both Glucagon and Insulin.  KRS 158.838 does not specify what training program should be used other than it should be fully consistent with training programs and guidelines developed by the American Diabetes Association
