Kentucky Learning Hub Science of Reading Courses (Launching Fall 2026)
The Kentucky Department of Education (KDE), in partnership with
SchoolKit Group, is offering Science of Reading (SoR) professional
learning through the Kentucky Learning Hub
(kylearninghub.org).
These asynchronous courses are designed to deepen educator understanding
of reading research and evidence-based literacy instruction while
providing flexible learning opportunities that can be integrated into
professional learning communities, coaching cycles, leadership
development, onboarding and individual professional growth.
What the Research Says: Effective Reading Instruction for All Students Course
Meets requirements of
House Bill 253.
This eight module course explores the research base behind skilled
reading and effective literacy instruction. Participants examine the
five essential components of reading and learn how research translates
into instructional practices that support all students in becoming
proficient readers.
The eight modules are self-paced and take approximately
8 to 12 hours to complete.

Additional Professional Learning Opportunity
Supporting Striving Secondary Readers is an optional professional
learning opportunity but
does not satisfy the HB 253 K-5 professional learning
requirement. This course provides learning focused on
adolescent literacy for educators seeking to strengthen their
knowledge and better support students in grades 6 through 12.
Supporting Striving Secondary Readers Course
This 15-module course explores the research and effective practices
for supporting adolescent readers and writers in grades 6 through 12.
Participants deepen their understanding of adolescent literacy
development and learn how evidence-based practices connect to the
effective implementation of high-quality instructional resources.
The 15 modules are self-paced and take approximately
12 to 15 hours to complete.
