The Kentucky Department of Education (KDE), Office of Special Education and Early Learning (OSEEL), Kentucky School for the Blind (KSB) in Louisville, KY has an opening for an Outreach Consultant/Teacher position in the Kentucky Valley Educational Cooperative (KVEC) in the Central Kentucky Educational Cooperative area.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Provides statewide outreach consultation, assessment services, professional development opportunities and support for children, families, district personnel, and community members for the Kentucky Valley Educational Cooperative/Central Kentucky Educational Cooperative area.
- Provides consultation and technical assistance to district staff, attends Admissions and Release Committee meetings, and partners with Vocational Rehabilitation.
- Mentors students enrolled in and recent graduates of the UK TVI personnel preparation program, assists with age-appropriate transition planning, assists with district evaluation process, and provides assessments such as Functional Vision Assessment and Learning Media Assessments.
- Provides or recommends resources/materials for families and other providers; collaborates with child's other service providers such as speech therapist, physical therapist, occupational therapist, etc. or assists other consultants in their educational cooperatives.
- Organizes and leads Cadre/PLC meetings for teachers of the visually impaired and other providers in the Cooperative area.
- Provides professional learning opportunities via Gateways, parent and professional conferences, school level and educational cooperative presentations.
- Organizes, leads, and participates in regional or campus events centered upon an educational theme that is aligned to the State Standards and/or Expanded Core Curriculum.
- Collaborates with adult and student-age role models with visual impairment, subject experts, and community members to provide activities that are age appropriate. Also provides educational sessions for family members.
- Serves as a representative at monthly DoSE meetings, cooperatives cadres meetings, Statewide Cooperative Consultant's meeting, etc.
- Reviews recent publications such as JVIB and from sources such as APH, AFB, Pathways to Literacy, attends relevant webinars, and uses other resources to maintain, increase, and share professional knowledge.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
- A valid Kentucky Professional Certificate for Teaching Exceptional Children--Visually Impaired, Grades Primary Through 12, or a similar license from another state.
- A COMS certificate is preferred but not required.
- A minimum of three years of experience working with students who are visually impaired.
Applicants and employees in this classification may be required to submit to a drug screening test and background check.
In accordance with KRS 161.220 the applicant selected for this position will become a member of the Kentucky Teacher's Retirement System.
Salary: Dependent upon qualifications, training, and experience. KSB uses the salary schedule used by Jefferson County Public Schools as a guide.
