Leadership Development Specialist - MOA

The Kentucky Department of Education (KDE), Office of Educator Licensure and Effectiveness (OELE), has an opening for a Leadership Development Specialist - Memorandum of Agreement (MOA). ​

​This position will be a field staff remote position.

Position Summary:

The Leadership Development Specialist provides excellent leadership, support, and service to principal development in Kentucky so that there is an effective, responsive principal in every school.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:
  • PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES
    • Develop and deliver professional learning tailored to current and aspiring principals and assistant principals.
    • Provide ongoing training monthly for principals and assistant principals in Kentucky.
    • Provide technical assistance for principals to support effective school operations and instructional leadership.
    • Facilitate Commissioner Advisories as needed.
    • Ensure all leadership development initiatives align with state education standards and regulations.
    • Provide policy recommendations to enhance state leadership frameworks and support systems.
    • Manage communication efforts related to leadership development opportunities.
    • Maintain strong relationships with stakeholders to promote leadership development programs.
    • Participate in ongoing professional development to stay informed about current trends and best practices in educational leadership.
    • Perform such other duties as may be assigned by the Executive/Associate/OELE Director.

Qualifications:
The following qualifications are considered as guidelines:

  • Master's degree in education administration, Educational Leadership, or a related field.
  • Valid Kentucky teaching certificate and principal endorsement.
  • Experience as a principal or in a similar leadership role within an educational setting.
  • Proven ability to confidently deliver presentations and facilitate discussions in various settings, both in-person and online.
  • A variety of experiences in different educational roles (e.g., teacher, curriculum coordinator, district administrator) across diverse school environments.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to build relationships and collaborate effectively with school leaders, teachers, and staff.
  • Capacity to analyze challenges and provide practical solutions to support school leaders in their decision-making processes.
  • Familiarity with Kentucky's education laws, regulations, and best practices in school leadership.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects and priorities effectively.
  • Evidence of ongoing professional growth, such as workshops, conferences, or additional certifications relevant to educational leadership.

Applicants currently under contract with a local school district are required to provide a written release from their superintendent prior to an offer of employment is given.
 
In accordance with KRS 161.220 the applicant selected for this position will become a member of the Kentucky Teachers' Retirement System.
 
NOTE: This position will be filled through a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA). The applicant selected for this position must be an employee of a Kentucky local school district or institution of higher education.
