The Kentucky Department of Education, Office of Special Education and Early Learning, Division of State Schools, has an opening for a Houseparent II at the Kentucky School for the Deaf in Danville.​

ASL Job Posting: Houseparent II 

This position offers a rewarding opportunity to work in a dynamic, student-centered environment focused on empowering the Deaf and Hard of Hearing community. Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

  • Supervise students in dormitory program to maintain accountability for student's whereabouts, safety and welfare.
  • Provide care, active engagement and supervision and instruction of a unit of residential students at the Kentucky School for the Deaf. Supervise students in dormitory setting.
  • Interpret, explain and enforce school policies and regulations and dorm guidelines/rules.
  • Plan and implement educational programs to reinforce life skills and ASL/English mastery striving to provide the best language accessible learning environment. Improve student literacy by collecting data, materials and ideas for dorm activities, create word walls, gather photos for web page, bulletin boards, craft projects, etc.
  • Inspect and maintain dorm appearance with emphasis on safety and an environment conducive to student development. Maintain cleanliness of rooms, clothing, etc. Ensure students complete cleaning duties such as making beds, cleaning trash cans, doing laundry, etc. Provide necessary care for sick students. Decorate seasonally, providing homelike touches.
  • Monitor and guide students in appropriate table manners and eating habits. Provide supervision to each dorm floor to ensure time schedule. Guide students in appropriate personal hygiene to include cleanliness, hair care & personal appearance.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

**This is a 3rd shift position**

Minimum Requirements

Education:
None

Experience, Training, or Skills:
One year of experience working with individuals in an instructional or institutional setting.

Substitute Education for Experience:
College may substitute for the work experience on a year-for-year basis.

Substitute Experience for Education:
None

Special Requirements (Age, Licensure, Regulation, etc.):
None

Preferred Skills:
Prior knowledge of American Sign Language (ASL) is preferred
