The Kentucky Department of Education (KDE), Office of Special Education, Division of State Schools, Kentucky School for the Blind (KSB) in Louisville, Kentucky (Jefferson County) has an opening for an Expanded Core Curriculum (ECC) Teacher/Recreation Leader.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:
Plans, organizes, and provides direct explicit instruction in the following areas (social interaction skills, independent living skills, recreation, and leisure skills. Use of assistive technology, sensory efficiency skills, and self-determination.) of the ECC for Blind and Visually Impaired residential students at KSB after school hours.
Regularly evaluates all residential students present levels of performance within the ECC and maintains accurate records.
Prepares and presents reports on these levels at the student's Admissions and Release Committee meetings, as requested.
Consults with residential staff.
Collaborates with students, families, and relevant staff.
Plans, organizes, and teaches requisite skills for the residential recreational program (both on-and off-campus activities).
Works with the Director of Student Life to develop yearly Kentucky School for the Blind Charitable Fund (KSBCF) grant requests following an in-depth inventory and survey related needs.
Maintain knowledge of local and national resources, and keep abreast of professional issues (e.g., review relevant literature, attend conferences) related to the field of education of blind and low vision students and advocate for the needs of students.
Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Requirements:
Must have valid Kentucky Teaching Certification with the Education and Professionals Standards Board. Must have certification to teach students who are Blind or Low Vision (Teacher of the Visually Impaired, TVI). If persons do not possess VI certification, it must be obtained within four years of beginning employment.
Preferred Requirements:
Knowledge of rules, rights, regulations, policies, procedures, programs, and services required for eligibility of program or services. Effective communication skills. Strong organizational skills.
Salary: KSB follows the Jefferson County Public Schools Salary Schedule / Rank & Step. Salary is dependent upon qualifications, training, and experience.
Number of Contract Days: 210
