The Kentucky Department of Education (KDE), Office of Special Education and Early Learning (OSEEL), in Frankfort (Franklin County) has openings for five part-time Education Program Consultant – Regional Family Postsecondary Transition Mentor positions.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Provide consultative services and technical assistance to local school district personnel and other state and private educational agencies in the development, coordination, implementation, and monitoring of educational programs.
Provide consultative services and technical assistance to school-age students with disabilities in preparing for the transition to postsecondary education and adulthood.
Collaborate with families to develop and implement transition plans for students with disabilities, including setting postsecondary goals and identifying necessary support services. Provide one-on-one support to families, tailored to their specific needs and their unique circumstances of their child's disability.
Provide families with up-to-date information on disability-related legislation, policies, and best practices to help them make informed decisions. Connect families with relevant community resources, agencies and support networks that can aid in their child's transition to post-secondary life.
Act as a bridge between families, school personnel and other transition service providers, ensuring effective communication and collaboration in the best interests of the student. Conduct strategic planning training sessions, workshops or support groups for families addressing topics related to special education, transition planning and disability-related issues.
Assist families and students in setting achievable goals that align the student's strengths, interests, and values. Teach students with disabilities self-advocacy skills to prepare for their independence in postsecondary settings. Regularly monitor students' progress in their transition plans and make adjustments as needed to ensure goals are being met.
Remain up to date with current trends in special education and transition services through ongoing professional development training. Maintain accurate records of interactions and services provided to families and students. Participate in program evaluation and report on the effectiveness of support services to help improve the mentorship program.
Perform other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
EDUCATION:
Graduate of a college or university with a master's degree in education or a related field.
EXPERIENCE, TRAINING, OR SKILLS:
Three years of professional experience in education, career and technical education, or a related field.

EXPERIENCE for EDUCATION:
Current Rank II or Rank I certification by the Department of Education or Education Professional Standards Board will substitute for the required educational requirement. Additional professional experience in the field of education will substitute for the required educational requirement on a year-for-year basis.

In accordance with KRS 161.220 the applicant selected for this position will become a member of the Teachers' Retirement System.
Applicants and employees in this classification may be required to submit to a drug screening test and background check.
Applicants currently under contract with a local school district are required to provide a written release from their superintendent prior to an offer of employment.
Pay Grade: 16 Hourly Rate: $23.665 - $31.812
NOTE: This position is eligible for consideration for a hybrid schedule that allows for a combination of three in-office workdays and approved alternative work scheduling. Telework will not be permitted outside the state of Kentucky. The agency may terminate or modify the telecommuting arrangement at any time.
