The Kentucky Department of Education (KDE), Office of Special Education, Division of State Schools, Kentucky School for the Blind (KSB) in Louisville, Kentucky (Jefferson County) has an opening for a Director of Student Life.​

General Description

The role of the Director of Student Life is to supervise and coordinate the personnel and operations of the Residential Program. The Director of Student Life is responsible for maintaining the coordination of services in accordance with school policies and procedures and maintaining quality standards of childcare and instruction in the dormitories. This is a second shift position, with work hours being 3:30 pm to 11:30 pm.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

Supervises and supports students in the after-school program and dormitories by creating a protocol or procedure to ensure accountability for where students are at all times and implementing the plan, ensuring all staff and students are familiar with the plan.

Participates in administrative meetings, meets weekly with the principal, and participates in ARCs when needed to prepare for student programming.

Share updates related to programming, scheduling, student concerns and other information to parents, dormitory students, and campus staff regularly with focus on urgent issues.

Evaluates student development/houseparent personnel.

Works with administration to create a system of incentives and expectations for participation in all programs (PBIS) Supervises, coordinates, and evaluates the staff and operations of the residential, recreational programs including assisting in hiring, dorm supervisors and house parents, coordinates orientation of new personnel and substitutes.

Direct and provides staff development training; serves as a resource person for all staff.

Develops, coordinates, and supervises the after-school student development programs to include extra-curricular programs, recreational programs, social and cultural activities, residential jobs programs and budget, student transportation, trauma informed care, and residential budget.

Regularly checks for safety and health related concerns and creates a plan for remediation with other KSB staff.

Ensures emergency preparedness. Schedules and tracks emergency drills.

Reviews and manages charitable grant requests and spending.

Order dorm supplies when warranted.

Dorm unit inspection daily for cleanliness.

Plan and supervise special events.

Supervise and participate in development of the implementation of curriculum and programming for independent dorm programs.

Supervise and participate in development of the implementation of curriculum and programming for transition dorm program.

Evaluate program(s) effectiveness on an ongoing basis (transition program, independent program, clubs, social activities, recreation, transportation, and cultural activities).

Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Requirements:

Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with major coursework in special education or closely related field.
Experience as a supervisor.
Experience working with children with visual impairments and addition impairments.
Knowledge of child development and positive behavior support.
Excellent communication and organizational skills.
Preferred Requirements:
Master's degree in special education or related field.
Teacher of Students with Visual Impairment certification.
 
Salary: KSB follows the Jefferson County Public Schools Salary Schedule / Rank & Step.
Salary is dependent upon qualifications, training, and experience.
 
Number of Contract Days: 220
