Academic Program Consultant – World Language (MOA)

​The Kentucky Department of Education (KDE), Office of Teaching and Learning (OTL), Division of Program Standards (DPS) has an opening for an Academic Program Consultant focusing on World Language.

This position will lead the review and revision of the Kentucky Academic Standards (KAS) for World Language and support implementation of the standards by developing resources and high-quality professional learning (HQPL) for teachers, schools, districts and partners to ensure access to vibrant, grade-level language learning experiences statewide.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Develop resources to support the implementation of the KAS for World Language.

Lead the standards revision process as outlined in KRS 158.6453 for the KAS for World Language.

Develop guidance and tools to support effective implementation of KAS for World Language.

Provide customer support through various communications (synchronous and asynchronous professional learning, email, phone, webinars) to support schools and districts in implementing the KAS for World Language.

Design and deliver synchronous and asynchronous HQPL through the KYLearningHub and in-person to deepen educator understanding of standards and evidence-based practices.

Promote the adoption of HQPL for world language programs.

Promote the vision for vibrant world language instruction through KDE communication channels.

Work with internal and external partners to support the implementation of the KAS for World Language

Collaborate with educational and community organizations and statewide language organizations to scale implementation and promote coherence statewide.

Other duties as assigned.

Preferred Skills:

Expertise in World Language Content & Pedagogy – Strong knowledge of language acquisition, proficiency-based instruction, and cultural competence.

Clear & Concise Writing – Ability to craft accessible reports, guidance documents, and instructional materials.

Information Synthesis – Skilled in analyzing and integrating complex research, policy documents, and educational trends.

Knowledge of the KAS for World Language – Understanding of the state standards document and expectations.

Professional Development Facilitation – Ability to design and facilitate training sessions and coach educators in best practices to support implementation of the KAS for World Language.

Required Experience and Education:

Must be a graduate of a college or university with a master's degree in education or related field.

Must have five years of professional experience in education.

Current Rank II or Rank I certification by the Kentucky Education Professional Standards Board will substitute for the required educational requirement.

Additional professional experience in the field of education will substitute for the required educational requirement on a year-for-year basis.

Must have professional experience in world language instruction.

Applicants and employees in this classification may be required to submit to a drug screening test and background check. 

Applicants currently under contract with a local school district or regional educational cooperative are required to provide a written release from their superintendent or director prior to an offer of employment will be given. 
 
NOTE: This position will be filled through a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA). The applicant selected for this position must be an employee of a Kentucky local school district, regional educational cooperative, or institution of higher education.
