Jacqueline Mayfield is a passionate educator with over twenty years of classroom experience and currently teaches kindergarten. She believes learning should be accessible, engaging, and tailored to each student's unique needs, finding joy in simplifying complex ideas or exploring topics in depth. Driven by curiosity—both her own and her students'—she is inspired by the moment when understanding clicks and the spark of learning comes to life.

What keeps you motivated and passionate about your work in education?

"What keeps me motivated is the endless flow of curiosity from the children I interact with. Every question is unique, and every person has their own way of thinking and learning. That variety keeps things exciting.

I also love the idea that knowledge is a ripple effect. When I help a student understand a concept, they might use that knowledge to solve a problem, teach someone else, or create something new. It’s not just about sharing information — it’s about sparking ideas and growth."

What guidance would you offer to someone considering a career in education today?

"The world of education is amazing — it's a challenging yet a deeply impactful path.

As an educator you need to clarify your "why"Teaching can be tough, so having a clear sense of why you want to educate — whether it’s to inspire, empower, or make a difference — will anchor you through the hard days.

Educators need to embrace lifelong learning. The best educators are also learners. Stay curious, adapt to new teaching methods, and be open to feedback from students and colleagues alike.

Educators need to build relationships. Strong connections with students create a supportive learning environment. Listen to them, show empathy, and celebrate their progress — no matter how small.

Educators need to be flexible. Every day in education is different. Whether you’re navigating tech glitches, shifting lesson plans, or responding to student needs, being adaptable will serve you well.

Educators need to collaborate. Connect with other educators — online or in person — to share ideas, gain support, and stay inspired.

Educators need to prioritize self-care. Burnout is real. Always set boundaries, take breaks, and find time for yourself is crucial — you can’t pour from an empty cup."

What do you wish more people understood about the impact of teachers in society?

"I wish more people truly understood that teachers are the foundation of every profession and every future. Their impact goes far beyond the classroom — they don’t just deliver lessons; they shape mindsets, inspire creativity, and nurture resilience."
