The Kentucky Department of Education (KDE), Office of Special Education and Early Learning, Division of State Schools, Kentucky School for the Blind, in Louisville, (Jefferson County) has an opening for a Moderate Severe Disabilities (MSD) Teacher.​

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Have experience working with students with an array of moderate severe disabilities.

Provides professional leadership within the school, community, and education profession to improve student learning as well as support district and state initiatives.

Demonstrates content knowledge within assigned discipline(s) or program with a focus on life skills.

Plans, implements, and assesses instruction, including the Expanded Core Curriculum (ECC), designed to develop students' abilities to use education/employment/independent living skills, apply core concepts, become self-sufficient individuals, become responsible team members, think and solve problems, and integrate knowledge.

Provides a balanced and individualized progress monitoring system for IEP goals. Maintains a variety of records as required by school district policies, state and federal law or as assigned by the Principal.

Serves as a member of the ARC (Admissions and Release Committee) in determining eligibility of students for special education programs; assists in development, implementation, monitoring and evaluating of IEP (Individual Education Plan).

Collaborate with Dorm staff to implement services in an authentic setting outside of the school day/environment. Supervises students to ensure student safety. Secures and makes use of school and community resources. Communicate regularly with parents and guardians of students.

Assesses student learning using a variety of tools consistent with Kentucky's Assessment Program; communicates results to students, parents and staff making referrals for extra services as necessary, uses assessment results to design appropriate instructional activities.

Creates a learning climate that supports student achievement and safety. Evaluates teaching effectiveness based on student achievement in relation to student attainment of Kentucky's learning goals.

Uses technology to support instruction; access and manipulate data; enhances professional growth and productivity; communicates and collaborates with colleagues, parents, and the community; and conducts research/solve problems.

Participates in required training relative to teaching assignments, supervisor approved professional growth plan, school/district initiatives, or as directed by the Principal. Adheres to school, district, state and federal policies, regulations, and laws. Participates in school-related activities, programs or meetings as assigned by the principal and/or the Superintendent. Performs such other tasks and assumes such other responsibilities as may be assigned by the Principal, program supervisor or the Superintendent.

Perform other duties as assigned.
 
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
 
Applicants must possess valid certification through the KY Educational and Professional Standards Board to teach students who have moderate severe disabilities (MSD K-12) certification required. Secondary Education (6-12) certification preferred, but not required.

Teacher of the Visually Impaired Certification preferred, but if a person does not possess TVI Certification, they must obtain this certification within 4 years of initial employment.

In accordance with KRS 161.220 the applicant selected for this position will become a member of the Kentucky Teachers' Retirement System.

Salary: Dependent upon qualifications, training, and experience.
