About the Initiative

Last Updated on Thursday, June 05, 2008 at 5:01 AM

As of June 2006, funding was officially appropriated for a project to replace/purchase additional instructional desktops, laptops, and tablet personal computers to be used by the students and teachers in the school districts throughout Kentucky between January 2007 and June 2008.  The objective of this initiative, known as the Instructional Device Upgrade Project, is not only to purchase new devices but to also provide a complete solution that will help advance student learning through new instructional technologies.

In order to ensure that this is accomplished successfully, an Advisory Committee has been assembled under the sponsorship of the Office of Internal Administration and Support and the Office of Education Technology in conjunction with Christine Markert, who is the Project Manager for this initiative.  The Advisory Committee is comprised of individuals representing diverse roles (i.e. District Assessment Coordinators, Assistive Learning specialists, Superintendents, Principals, Technology Resource Teachers, Students and District Technology Representatives) that have been assembled to represent the voice of the district stakeholders and have been cast into the role of active members of the internal project team to ensure balance between district/school requirements and IT capabilities.  The Advisory Committee has been actively engaged since July of 2006 providing district feedback, outlining district requirements, updating their respective regional peers and providing critical input on key decision points.
