Transition from Middle to High School Grades

Last Updated on Thursday, May 17, 2012 at 2:03 PM

In addition to academic guidance, secondary students need opportunities to identify and explore personal and social goals for adulthood. As students transition from middle school to high school, they will be faced with increasingly complex issues and decisions. How they approach these issues and what decisions they make can have a lasting impact on their social, emotional and physical development. As schools have become extremely busy places, it is not the sole responsibility of the guidance counselor to help guide students through these stages, but rather the responsibility of each teacher, each caring adult, that the child comes into contact with.

"The transition into high school is a critical juncture for students—a time  when they move from often smaller and more supportive middle schools to larger high schools, where the academic and social demands are higher.”
