Advisor Recruitment & Assignment

Last Updated on Saturday, February 11, 2012 at 10:02 PM

Volunteer community advisor recruitment is a critical piece in the implementation of Operation Preparation. Each 8th-/ 10th-grade student should have the opportunity to meet one-on-one with a trained community advisor.

Schools may wish to call on current school volunteers (be sure to enlist volunteers from the elementary schools in your district as well) or solicit new volunteers from parents at the school or members of the local community. This is a good area in which to use the help of a community partner or local community service organizations.  Some volunteers may be willing to advise more than one child, so be sure to check and take this into consideration when scheduling advising times.

It is important that parents of 8th-/10th-grade students know about Operation Preparation and the opportunity for their child’s participation.  Some may have concerns about confidentiality issues in regard to student information or about the background of the volunteers.  Answers to many of their questions may be found in the Frequently Asked Questions (same  link) document or in a letter sent to them by either the superintendent or principal (see Advisee Parent/Recruitment Letter (insert link) below). Parents should contact the school if they wish their child to opt-out of the program.
