Middle and High School Science Alliances

Last Updated on Thursday, October 02, 2008 at 5:02 AM

These alliances are to be professional learning communities involving all partners in the ongoing study of important conceptual and pedagogical issues facing middle and high school Science teachers. Content and pedagogy should be at the forefront, with alliances focusing on:
- developing, implementing and revising units of study centered around
   - the 7 Big Ideas from Kentucky's Program of Studies for Science and Core Content for Assessment, V. 4,
   - Inquiry learning/project based learning
   - Effective integration of literacy skills in the Science Classroom;
- developing, implementing and revising science end of course assessments.
The opportunity should be used to collaborate with teachers and professors to build ongoing communication and promote important future collaborations.  Alliances may include a summer workshop component, but should primarily focus on meetings throughout the academic year.

- 3 Awards based on 7 proposals
- Up to $190,000 per year, renewable for 3 years based on successful implementation/evidence of progress
- Funding commenced January 2006
