This program requires institutions of higher education and high-needs school districts to form partnerships to develop an Alternative Route to Certification Program for K-12 science and mathematics teachers who currently hold a bachelors degree but who may not be considered "highly qualified" for a science and/or mathematics teaching position under NCLB.
Projects should focus on serving teachers from high-need schools/districts. Plans should offer a participation incentive (e.g., tuition waivers, stipends, etc.), at least to an initial 'pilot group' of teachers.
• 3 Awards made from 3 proposals
• Up to $100,000 per year, renewable for 3 years based on successful implementation/evidence of progress
• Funding commenced in 2004
