"Adventures in Statistics"

Last Updated on Tuesday, July 01, 2008 at 5:00 AM

On an external site, you'll find a 5th Grade Unit of Study called Adventures in Statistics

In "Adventures in Statistics," the authors have covered many Kentucky standards (listed below). The students use estimation, averaging, graphing, figure area, find the median, convert meters to decimals, and so on. The different learning styles are met, and the unit gets parents involved to help supervise on at least one day of the project.

This unit involves hands-on, partnered, inquiry-based learning.  The culminating activity asks students to write and present their findings to the principal and superintendent. This is a real-world application of what is taught in the classroom. There are also extension ideas and conclusions attached.
