KENTUCKY BOARD OF EDUCATION HONORS KEA

News Release 07-065 - August 8, 2007

               (FRANKFORT, Ky.) – At its regular meeting today in Frankfort, the Kentucky Board of Education issued a resolution honoring the Kentucky Education Association (KEA).

            Founded in 1857, the KEA celebrates its 150th year of service in 2007. KEA is a voluntary membership organization for school employees. KEA has a broad base of member practitioners in public education, including K-12 public school teachers and classified support professional employees, school administrators, the Kentucky Community and Technical College System (KCTCS), college students preparing to become teachers and retired educators.

            KEA is an advocacy organization that lobbies for improved education funding, safe schools, better materials, smaller class sizes and the empowerment of school employees and parents. The group is affiliated with the National Education Association and has local affiliates in every school district. It is the largest professional association in Kentucky, with 15 offices around the state.

Whereas,               The Kentucky Education Association is a well-respected, professional organization representing educators across the state;

Whereas,               The Kentucky Education Association's support is vital in the journey for reaching proficiency by 2014;

Whereas,               The Kentucky Education Association is a valued partner in ensuring a high-quality education for all of Kentucky's students; and,

Whereas,               The Kentucky Education Association is celebrating its 150th anniversary;

NOW, THEREFORE, be it resolved by the Kentucky Board of Education to offer its congratulations to the Kentucky Education Association on reaching this historical milestone of 150 years.

Done in the city of Frankfort, this eighth day of August, in the year Two Thousand and Seven.
