(FRANKFORT, Ky.) – Claraview, Inc., of Reston, Virginia, will provide software and professional services for the Kentucky Instructional Data System (KIDS) statewide longitudinal data system, the Kentucky Department of Education announced today.

The KIDS project is funded primarily through a $5.8 million federal grant awarded in late 2005 by the National Center for Education Statistics’ Institute for Education Sciences. Claraview was selected as the contract holder after a Request for Proposals was issued in the fall of 2006.

The KIDS project’s goals are to:

  • support decision-making at state, district, school and classroom levels
  • enable Kentucky to manage, analyze, disaggregate and use individual student data
  • help the state meet reporting requirements of the federal No Child Left Behind (NCLB) Act
  • create a data warehouse that combines demographic, assessment and financial data
  • create a storehouse that will allow other sources of data (such as higher education and teacher certification) to be added and searched/queried

KIDS also will be the foundation for a planned knowledge management portal that will provide targeted instructional resources, including standards-based units of study, lesson plans, curriculum maps, assessments and other educational resources. The portal also will offer a collaborative workspace that teachers can use to share best practices, develop test items and expand their professional skills.

Once KIDS is implemented, teachers and administrators can access the portal through a Web-based application. Claraview will provide ongoing technical assistance to school-, district- and state-level users.

Claraview will implement a comprehensive solution that includes the eScholar Complete Data WarehouseTM, Cognos 8 Education and Performance Management System and Microsoft Sharepoint Portal Server 2007 software applications.
