(FRANKFORT, Ky.) –Middle and high school students who are interested becoming teachers can attend one of nine camps scheduled at universities across the state this summer.
The 2007 Future Educators Association (FEA) Summer Camps are designed for FEA club members, prospective members or any student who might enter the teaching profession.
Students will participate in activities related to academic areas and will learn what it takes to become a teacher in that field. Science and mathematics will receive special emphasis as particularly critical teacher shortage areas.
Students will learn the requirements to become a teacher in mathematics and the great demand for teachers in this area. They will participate in field trips and hands-on-experiences as they explore the opportunities in teaching science and will learn more about the facilities available to enhance learning for pre-service teachers.
Camp participants also will be encouraged to engage in activities that help them to become more familiar with a university campus and more confident about entering college life.
There are no fees for participants to attend the camps, which are funded through grants provided by the Kentucky Department of Education’s Division of Educator Quality and Diversity.
Camp dates and locations follow. To register, middle and high school FEA sponsors or other school personnel should contact the appropriate university.
