(FRANKFORT, Ky.) – Organizations interested in providing supplemental educational services may apply to become official providers by visiting the Kentucky Department of Education’s Web site.

The federal No Child Left Behind (NCLB) Act requires that schools funded through the federal Title I program demonstrate adequate yearly progress. Schools that do not meet progress goals for three consecutive years must offer supplemental educational services (SES) to low-income children who choose to remain in those schools.

SES provide tutoring or additional academic support beyond the school day in the subjects of reading and mathematics. These services are provided by entities who have completed an application process and are placed on an approved providers list. Parents and students then choose a provider from the approved list.

The application for new SES providers for the 2007-08 school year and information about the program are available on the Department of Education’s Web site. The deadline for submitting an application is May 10, 2007.

To access the applications, visit http://www.education.ky.gov and type “SES” into the search box. Select “SES Downloads Page” from the list of items.
