(FRANKFORT, Ky.) – The Kentucky Teaching and Learning Conference (KTLC) celebrates its 29th year with exciting professional development opportunities for educators and public education advocates.
The conference is set for March 7-9 at the Kentucky International Convention Center in Louisville. Workshops and sessions are designed to provide teachers, administrators and education partners with a wide variety of successful strategies in teaching, learning and school management. More than 250 exhibitors will provide information on the latest school resources and technology.
Pre-registration is encouraged, but on-site registration is available at the Riverside Lobby of the International Convention Center. KTLC workshops support Kentucky’s Standards and Indicators for School Improvement, Technology Standards for Administrators, Teachers and Students and the professional development standards established by the Kentucky Department of Education.
The conference opens Wednesday evening, March 7, with a reception in the Cascade Ballroom. Well-known educator and motivational speaker John Wagner will talk about the positive power of humor to thrive in times of change in his presentation "Take This Job & Love It." There also will be a drawing for a cruise at the end of the presentation.
Gene Wilhoit, executive director of the Council of Chief State School Officers (CCSSO) and former Kentucky Commissioner of Education, will be the keynote speaker on Friday, March 9, beginning at 10 a.m. Other featured speakers include:
- Thomas Guskey, professor of Educational Policy Studies and Evaluation at the University of Kentucky, author and national consultant
- Skip Kifer, a University of Louisville professor and specialist in measurement, evaluation and statistical analysis
- Susan Gunderman and Mimi Dyer, from Kennesaw Mountain High School in Kennsaw, Georgia
- Fred Johnson, executive director of Educational Resource Services and author of books related to student discipline and behavior
KTLC07 will host an “Intelligent Classroom” in Room 109 of the Kentucky International Convention Center on Thursday, March 8. Intelligent Classrooms cement new technologies into the core of education, sparking greater interaction between students, teachers, parents and the community.
Educators registered for the 2007 Kentucky Teaching and Learning Conference will have the opportunity to participate in the Louisville Arts Education Showcase, which will occur on Thursday, March 8, in the Cascade Ballroom starting at 10:15 a.m. This event is sponsored by the Kentucky Center for Performing Arts to help educators become more aware of artists and arts programs available to schools.
