(FRANKFORT, Ky.) -- Two Kentucky educators will get the surprise of a lifetime soon, when they will be notified of their selection as Milken Family Foundation Educators.

On Thursday, October 14, both will be visited by Education Commissioner Gene Wilhoit and a representative of the Milken Family Foundation. Both educators are located in the eastern part of the state.

CONFIDENTIALITY IS EXTREMELY IMPORTANT IN THIS VISIT. The two winners do not know of their selection.

More specific information about the announcements will be provided Wednesday, October 13.

The largest teacher recognition program in the U.S., the Milken Family Foundation National Educator Awards were created to reward, retain and attract the highest quality K-12 educators to the profession. Each Milken Educator receives an unrestricted financial award of $25,000 and an all-expenses-paid trip to Washington, D.C. to participate in the annual Milken National Education Conference in May, 2005.

Since 1993, when the state joined the program, 44 Kentucky educators have received the award.
