(FRANKFORT, Ky.) -- Four Kentucky public schools have been named 2004 No Child Left Behind - Blue Ribbon Schools.
The four are:
- Central Elementary, Johnson County
- Morgantown Elementary, Butler County
- Sacramento Elementary, McLean County
- West Louisville Elementary, Daviess County
The No Child Left Behind - Blue Ribbon Schools Program honors public and private K-12 schools that are either academically superior in their states or that demonstrate dramatic gains in student achievement.
The program requires schools to meet either of two assessment criteria. It recognizes schools that have at least 40 percent of their students from disadvantaged backgrounds that dramatically improve student performance in reading and mathematics over the last three years in accordance with state assessment systems; and it rewards schools that score in the top 10 percent statewide in reading and mathematics on state assessments. Morgantown and Sacramento Elementaries won in the first category, and Central and West Louisville Elementaries won in the second.
Representatives from each school will attend a recognition ceremony November 4-5 in Washington, D.C.
