DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Provide consultative services and technical assistance to local school system personnel, classroom teachers, and other state and private agencies in planning, developing, and implementing instructional programs with an emphasis on elementary writing/literacy.
Serve as the elementary school consultant and provide expertise in the area of writing/literacy for the Department of Education in regard to curriculum resource development, including units of study with attention to Academic Expectations, Program of Studies and Core Content for Assessment.
Serve as liaison to the Writing Advisory Committee and the Scoring Accuracy Assurance Team, supporting Kentucky teachers and assessment contractors in the development and implementation of Kentucky’s assessment system.
Facilitate the development of products related to curriculum, instruction and assessment in the writing/literacy program area.
Participate as an active member on KDE teams, committees, and other related committees to represent the needs and issues of elementary writing/literacy instruction and assessment.
Serve as liaison to various professional organizations, colleges, universities, and other agencies and partners.
Implement writing/literacy program goals as identified by the Division of Curriculum Development and the Kentucky Department of Education.
Serve as a resource for information pertaining to writing/literacy programs to local school district personnel, teachers, parents, and others.
Prepare administrative reports and perform other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
Must be a graduate of a college or university with a Master’s degree in education, or a related field. Must have five years of professional experience in the field of education.
SUBSTITUTION CLAUSE:
Current Rank II or Rank I certification by the Kentucky Education Professional Standards Board will substitute for the required educational requirement. Additional professional experience in the field of education will substitute for the required educational requirement on a year-for-year basis.
ADDITIONAL PREFERRED EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION AND/OR SKILLS:
Kentucky Writing Project participation, National Board Certification, experience as a writing cluster leader, school or district literacy coach, and/or as a school or district resource teacher.

Applicants currently under contract with a local school district are required to provide a written release from their superintendent prior to an offer of employment is given.
In accordance with KRS 161.220 the applicant selected for this position will become a member of the Kentucky Teachers’ Retirement System.
NOTE: This position will be filled through a Master of Agreement (MOA). The applicant selected for this position must be an employee of a Kentucky local school district or institution of higher education. Employment contract will be for one year, renewable up to a maximum of three years.
