More than 3,500 students from across Kentucky competed in the Student Technology Leadership Program (STLP) State Showcase Competition May 6 and 7 in Lexington. The event provided P-12 students opportunities to present their projects to people outside their classrooms. See press release.

Early Childhood Teacher Academies in Literacy and Math to be held this Summer
Four Early Childhood Teacher Academies will be held this summer in partnership with institutions of higher education. The purpose of these academies is to improve language and literacy practices and child outcomes. Participants will receive graduate credit or a stipend. Commissioner Draud Responds to KLTPRC Report
Education Commissioner Jon E. Draud says that a report from the Kentucky Long-Term Policy Research Center (KLTPRC) provides “great news” for the state’s P-12 education community. The report was released on Tuesday. In it, the KLTPRC notes that Kentucky’s “investments in education yield higher results than predicted considering the obstacles we face.” A copy of the report is available on the Kentucky Long-Term Policy Research Center’s Web site at http://www.kltprc.net/. New Highly Skilled Educators Selected
Fifteen Kentucky educators will serve as new Highly Skilled Educators (HSEs), joining the 46 currently helping low-performing schools raise the achievement of their students, the Kentucky Department of Education announced. See press release.
Social Studies Tour of Germany
The Kentucky Department of Education, in cooperation with Atlantik-Brucke (Atlantic-Bridge), announces an opportunity for high school social studies teachers and university professors who prepare high school social studies teachers for the classroom to apply for an all-expenses-paid study tour of Germany from Oct. 4-17. Twelve educators and two alternates will be selected to participate in the study tour. Application deadline is May 30.
Mathematics and Science Partnership Request for Application and Call for Reviewers Now Available
Kentucky's Mathematics and Science Partnership program is designed to improve the performance of teachers, students and administrators in the areas of mathematics, science, technology and engineering. KDE anticipates awarding up to 8 grants at $200,000 per year for two years, with a possible third year contingent upon evaluation, project success, and impact on teacher pedagogical content knowledge growth and student achievement.
