Q: Can students purchase Microsoft Office products at educational discounts?

A:  Yes, effective May 1, 2007, The Kentucky Department of Education's Microsoft Academic Select Contract includes the Microsoft Student Select Program.    Students as well as Education faculty, staff and board members can purchase at education-discounted prices.

Q:  What products and prices are available?

A:  Click here for Student Select pricing.  Information is available below on products included.  Vista Ultimate is now available.

Q:  Are employees and students permitted to purchase more than one copy of the software?

A:  Employees and students are permitted only one individual license per product.  A family can purchase multiple copies only if they have more than one student in KY K-12 schools or a combination of eligible employee/students in the household.

Q:  How do I show I qualify as a student or employee?

A:  If you have a school or KDE-issued email address, use your full email address to register and qualify.  If you do not have a qualifying email address, you must send an image or fax of a document that shows you are enrolled or employeed by a qualifying school or agency. Follow the instructions outlined in the purchase process.

Q:  Is there information available that can be shared with students and staff?

A:  e-Academy has provided a print/poster quality .pdf and a jpeg for email distribution (example below).  Email jessica.abbott@education.ky.gov for a copy.

Q:  Does the price include a full version of the software?

A:  Yes, all applications are full versions of the software.  The Windows Vista license does require that a qualifying Windows operating system license be previously installed on the computer.

Q:  Is the software downloaded or is the media (CD/DVD) included?

A:  The media is included.  It is special Student Select media which allows only 1 installation of the software.

Q:  Since the software allows only 1 installation, how do you handle situations where new computers are purchased or current computers are re-built?

A:  If there is a need to reformat hard drive or a new computer is purchased, the e-Academy tech support team (support@e-academy.com) or 1-888-396-1447, “support”, can provide another activation key. The end user should know, however, that the license does only allow for one install per license, so if a new machine is bought they would have to uninstall license(s) from the old machine.

Q:  What applications are included in each of the Microsoft Suites?

A:  Microsoft provides a matrix on its site.  Click here to be redirected to Microsoft for that information.

Q:  On the e-Academy purchase site, under the Academic Affiliation purchase it asks for a Student ID,  Is that the state assigned student number?

A:  No, state assigned or school-assigned numbers aren't used, that field is just part of the basic e-Academy template.  Full name should be typed in that field instead of a number.
