You can easily create tables in Word 2007 without touching the mouse. This is accomplished by using the pipe key, also referred to as the vertical bar, and the underscore key. The pipe key is on the same key as the backslash (\), just above the enter key on most keyboards. You’ll need to hold down shift and then hit the pipe key simultaneously to get a character that looks like this: |.

The underscore is to the right of the zero key and you’ll need to hit shift and the underscore key simultaneously to get a character that looks like this: _.

For example, if you need a two-column table, type |_|_| in a Word document and then hit enter. If you need more columns, type |_| for each one you need, without spaces. For example, to create a four-column table, type |_|_|_|_| and then hit enter.

To add rows, put the cursor to the right of the cells and hit enter. Repeat the enter keystroke for each additional row you’d like to add.
