The last Tech Tip, Twitter 101, discussed several basic functions and terms you’ll encounter when conversing via the social media site Twitter.com. Here’s how to create a new account and join the conversation.
Twitter has a very simple sign-up form that asks for four pieces of information: your full name, which will appear in your public profile; a username of your choice; a password of your choice; and your e-mail address. After you complete the sign-up form, you’ll be ready to share and collaborate.
In the profile portion of your Twitter account you can configure several settings, including mobile access via text message, design elements for your page, a profile picture, the ability to add a personal or professional bio, and many other options. Some Twitter users limit interactions with others who don’t complete at least some of their profile information. So if they can’t figure out who you are, they may be apprehensive about collaborating with you.
This could be seen as a benefit as well, depending on how you plan to use the service. As with any social media tool, you have the choice to use as much or as little of Twitter as you’d like.
