Have you ever told someone that you saved something on the Z drive just to be told that they don’t have a Z drive? This can be a frustrating and confusing exchange but it doesn’t have to be.
Drive letters can be mapped to different physical network locations (where you’re storing documents on the network) and the letters can vary from customer to customer. The same network location that’s mapped as the Z drive for one person can be assigned a different letter for another person.
To avoid confusion when telling others where information is stored, open My Computer on your PC and see where your drive letter is mapped. For example, my Y drive letter below is mapped to the KDE folder on server kdedatan1.

On this drive I’ve created a folder called KETS Tech Tip. If I’d like to send a link to someone for them to open that folder easily this would be written as \\kdedatan1\kde\KETSTechTip. Please note that all network drives and folders are not accessible to everyone in KDE due to security restrictions. However, drives and folders shared between workgroups, divisions, etc. should be accessible within those teams. Also note that these network drives are only accessible to customers within KDE or connected via VPN and not externally.
