Recent Federal Legislation, Public Law 110-161, The Consolidated Appropriations Act of 2008, authorized funds to expand a program that offers free fruits and vegetables to students during the school day. The purpose of the program is to increase fruit (both fresh and dried) and fresh vegetable consumption in schools. Kentucky is scheduled to receive $250,000 to distribute to 25 elementary schools.
