Nine training sessions for the 2010 Summer Food Service program are scheduled for experienced and new sponsors.  Each session begins at 8:30 a.m. local time and will end no later than 4 p.m. local time. The Kentucky Board of Education, the Council on Postsecondary Education and the Education Professional Standards Board will hold a joint meeting on Wednesday, February 10, to formally adopt a resolution implementing the Common Core State Standards in English/language arts and mathematics. New Supplemental Educational Services providers sought
Groups and individuals who wish to become Supplemental Educational Services providers in Kentucky may apply for consideration beginning Friday, January 15, 2010 through March 19, 2010. Applicants may become approved to provide tutoring to some students in Kentucky public schools, depending on students’ eligibility for free or reduced-price meals and whether they attend schools that are served by federal Title I, Part A funds and have not made Adequate Yearly Progress for at least two consecutive years. Local organizations that regularly provide services to students are strongly encouraged to apply to become providers. There is a great need for providers in the state’s rural districts.

The Presidential Awards for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching
The Presidential Awards for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching are the nation’s highest awards for teachers of math and science. Teachers in grades K-6 are eligible for nomination for the 2010 award. Please nominate an outstanding math or science teacher at http://www.paemst.org.

Kentucky Association for Gifted Education’s 30th Annual Conference
The Kentucky Association for Gifted Education invites you to attend its 30th Annual Conference on February 8-9, 2010, in Lexington.  Sessions include information on RTI, reading, curriculum differentiation, mathematics standards and more. Hager Preschool named Center of Excellence
Hager Preschool in the Owensboro Independent school district has been designated as a Kentucky Early Childhood Center of Excellence. This award follows the school’s recognition last school year as an Early Childhood Center of Quality, the first step in attaining Center of Excellence status. See news release for more information.
